Browser
Nothing to install. It works offline once loaded, and you can add it to your home screen or taskbar from the browser menu.
Windows
A desktop application with its own window and icon. The installer is per-user, so it will not ask for an administrator.

Android
A signed application that opens full screen with no browser bar. Install it from the download page and allow the one-time prompt.

Already installed? It tells you
Every LifeHQ app has an Updates page — in the sidebar on the web and on Windows, under More on the phone. A bar across the top of the app says when a newer version exists; the page shows what is new, checks on demand, and has the one button that installs it. Nothing updates without you pressing it.
A note on the Android install
If you install the file from this page rather than from a store, your phone will ask once whether you trust it. That prompt is doing its job — it appears for anything not installed from a store, and you should be suspicious when it does not. The file is signed with the same key either way.
